Makhanda, South Africa (25 November 2025) – There are beautiful moments of connection that simply take you by surprise. Those moments that stir up something deep inside, leaving you unexpectedly cracking a small smile and wiping away a tear or two.

A Kingswood College matriculant, Joanna du Toit, had us and several others sniffling and smiling silly when she went out of her way to spread a little Christmas cheer to the children at the Home of Joy.

According to her school, Joanna had recently paid a visit to the children’s home based in Makhanda. Through her interactions with the youngsters, many of whom have experienced varying degrees of undeserved hardship and neglect, Joanna was moved to do more to bring them boundless joy in time for the holidays.

“She decided to sell flowers from the family farm to raise money for gifts for the children,” the school shared in a post.

Before writing her final exams, Joanna went back to Home of Joy, this time bearing all kinds of amazing gifts. She was also accompanied by her brother, who was more than happy to pose as Santa for the day – adding that extra bit of magic to the special day!

A video shared online shows the heartwarming moment the Du Toit siblings arrived with bags filled with wrapped presents, which they handed out to the curious children. They also spent the day playing with little ones, many of whom, we don’t doubt, still cherish the day to this present moment and will continue to for a very long time to come.

Run by Nomalungelo Margaret Ngcangca, affectionately known as Mama Margaret, Home of Joy is a children’s home which accommodates abandoned and vulnerable children. Here, Mama Margaret cares for about 33 children in her home in Joza, ranging from newborns to university students.

With little to no backing through governmental and other official channels, the haven is heavily dependent on the community for support.

Joanna hopes to help renovate the home in the new year, with the money she has left over from her flower sales and fundraising efforts.

The video has garnered tonnes of love and support from the public, with many viewers showering Joanna with blessings for her kind gesture.

“Beautiful Joanna, may God bless you always,” commented Genevieve Prince Agnew.

While Melinda Calnan Broster also wrote:

“Jo! What a legacy to leave at KC – so proud of you.”

And we couldn’t agree more! Joanna, you have done an incredibly good thing, and we are truly touched and inspired by your generous heart and dedication to pouring into others.
