Kirsten Landman continues to inspire as she overcomes challenges and achieves greatness, embodying the unstoppable spirit of South Africans.

Johannesburg, South Africa (20 August 2024) – South Africans are champions in all we do, embodying a spirit of resilience, determination, and a never-give-up attitude that shines through in every challenge we face. From sports fields to boardrooms and from classrooms to motorbikes, we rise to the occasion, proving time and time again that we are a nation of unstoppable go-getters.

And when it comes to pushing the limits of human endurance, no one represents this better than our very own Kirsten Landman.

Kirsten is not just another name in the world of motorsport—she’s a trailblazer, a force of nature, and a true inspiration to all South Africans. Growing up in Durban, Kirsten discovered her love for dirt bikes at a young age, and from that moment on, there was no stopping her. She quickly rose through the ranks, carving out a name for herself in a male-dominated sport where the challenges were fierce, but her resolve was fiercer.

Kirsten’s journey to greatness wasn’t without its hurdles. In 2013, a life-threatening accident left her with severe injuries, and many thought it would be the end of her racing career. But not Kirsten. She fought back with every ounce of strength, not just to walk again but to get back on her bike and compete at the highest level.

Her courage and determination saw her conquer some of the toughest off-road races in the world, but her ultimate dream was still on the horizon—the Dakar Rally.

The Dakar Rally is often described as the most gruelling motorsport event on the planet. It’s a race where the toughest competitors in the world gather, ready to face over 9,000 kilometres of unforgiving terrain across deserts, mountains, and vast wilderness. It’s a race where only the strongest survive, and in 2020, Kirsten Landman became the first African woman to finish this epic challenge on a motorcycle.

Her journey to the Dakar wasn’t easy. It was a test of endurance, mental strength, and pure willpower. The preparation alone was a marathon, involving countless hours of training, both physically and mentally. Yet, Kirsten embraced every challenge, determined to prove that she could go the distance.

“The Dakar Rally was something I always dreamed of,” Kirsten shared. “It was the ultimate test of everything I’d worked for. There were moments when it felt impossible, but I knew I had to keep pushing, not just for myself, but for everyone who believed in me.”

And push she did! Kirsten’s performance at Dakar was nothing short of extraordinary. She not only finished the race but did so with a level of grace and determination that left everyone in awe. She proved that with the right mindset, no challenge is insurmountable. And then she did it a second time… and is now planning for her third!
