What a difference love and care can make! The lives of two pupils -one who was disengaged in class and another whose teacher had never seen him smile- were remarkably transformed after a little encouragement and a loving intervention.
Howick, South Africa (19 February 2025) – During a recent school visit by the Love Howick EduTeam as part of the organisation’s EduProject initiative, two particular pupils caught their attention.
Upon engaging with the teachers and pupils, it came to the team’s attention that one pupil was disengaged and unwilling to participate in class activities. In the same class, there was another pupil who, according to the teacher, never smiled.
Sometimes, all a person needs is a listening ear and a few affirming words to help them recognise their worth or navigate a difficult obstacle in their life. And it was through engaging with two pupils that a heartwarming transformation unfolded in these two young souls.
“By the time we finished working with them, the change was nothing short of remarkable,” Love Howick shares.
The learner who previously refused to write or engage became one of the top-performing pupils, completing tasks quickly and accurately!
On the other hand, the learner who had never smiled before began to express happiness and positivity – a change the teacher described as something they had never seen before.
Now, if this doesn’t make you believe in the power of human connection and taking the time to make someone feel seen and heard, we don’t know what will.
For the members of Love Howick, it is such moments that remind them of the incredible community outreach work they do.
“Through our EduProject, we’re not just empowering learners with foundational literacy skills—we’re also nurturing confidence, joy, and a love for learning.
“Thank you to our incredible EduTeam, the dedicated teachers, and the amazing learners who inspire us every day. Together, we’re building a brighter future, one story at a time,” Love Howick concludes.
