Patrick Mwalua drove hours to give elephants water during the droughts in Tsavo, Kenya. Most didn’t know that he is currently in kidney failure, but since his story went viral, people have also started helping him.
Tsavo, Kenya (29 August 2017) – In February this year, we shared the phenomenal story of Patrick Mwalua, the water man. Patrick spends hours daily driving to spots where the elephants and other animals gather. He then opens the back of his tank and drinking water pours out for all the animals.
This man has been a true hero for the animals and has most likely saved hundreds of animals from dehydration and death. Whenever a person gives of themselves, they receive it back in abundance in some other way. This is so true for Patrick. Sadly he is in kidney failure and on dialysis twice a week.
Cher Callaway, the woman that has worked with Patrick on all the fundraising for the elephants, decided to help him in his personal story. So she did what she does best and found out what Patrick needed.
“He is currently on dialysis for kidney failure and desperately needs a kidney transplant. His brother has already agreed to donate one of his kidneys to Patrick”
She set up a campaign for Patrick after hearing there is a kidney; it is just the medical expense holding them back. She reached out to the thousands of people who had been moved by Patrick’s good deeds and asked for help.
Cher has raised $1,795 in just 24hrs of publishing her plea. Hopefully, Patrick can get the medical care he needs. He hasn’t let his diagnosis stop him from helping the animals. On the 21st of August, he was out checking all the water sources.
