When the person who usually spends her time looking out for others found herself stranded on the side of the road, it was Durban’s finest who stepped in to turn her day around.
Durban, South Africa (02 February 2026) – She’s usually the one who wears the invisible cape, rallying to help the less fortunate or disgruntled citizens, but this Saturday, Sharmaine Sewshanker was the one who needed saving – and it arrived swiftly and in uniform!
She was left stressed and stranded when she unexpectedly experienced a tyre puncture during peak traffic on the N2 North split before the Pavilion in Durban.
“I couldn’t get out of my vehicle to change the tyre due to the traffic moving really fast on both sides of the road,” Sharmaine recounts.
She did the next best thing, dialling a call to the Metro emergency control room. And less than 20 minutes later, two amazing law enforcement officers arrived to help.
“Just want to say a big thank you to Constable Bohlela and Sergeant Ntuli from Metro Police Central Durban Metro Police Service Central branch. They ensured that I was safe while they changed my tyre. God bless you both.”
Sharmaine further extended her appreciation to Inspector Lutchman, who works in the control room. He went as far as to call her back to check if she had arrived home safe – speaking to dedication that goes beyond the badge.
Sharing the moment online, the online community joined in thanking the heroes in blue.
“Thank you, Team Metro, for your spontaneous response,” one person wrote.
“Brilliant. Well done, Metro,” another saluted.
