Baby Accident

Jane recently welcomed a beautiful baby into the world but afterwards, she was involved in a tragic accident; she collapsed and broke her neck.

Cape Town, South Africa (09 October 2020) – A medical support fund has been created on BackaBuddy to help support Jane through an incredibly scary and tough time.

Jane recently welcomed a beautiful baby girl into the world but shortly afterwards, while being transferred from the operating table to a ward bed, she collapsed and broke her neck. Jane was rushed to a speciality ward that focuses on neck injuries and told she would not be able to spend time with her new baby girl.

She was absolutely devastated by the news which made the entire situation since the accident, all the more stressful! The risk is incredibly high right now and Jane has to stay completely still for the next 6-weeks before they can assess the damage done. The next 6-weeks are vital in her recovery and healing.

Not being with her baby girl is breaking her heart but thankfully her husband Charles will be able to take the baby home in the next day or so.

Liezel Maderal Maree started the crowdfund to help cover medical bills and all additional costs incurred by the accident. Charles will also need a helping hand with the baby for the foreseeable future.

“I am writing this in tears, as I myself gave birth last year and Jane was at my side for the first few months. She was also an employee of mine ( chef /baker ) at my restaurant cup and cake which has since then had to close and downscale due to COVID.

Her husband, the breadwinner of the house, will now have a day old baby to take care of while he juggles work responsibilities and assists with Janes recovery which at this point is very uncertain.

I am raising funds to be used to support the family during this time financially, and be utilized towards medical bills for her recovery.

Reaching my target will mean that Jane can receive the proper care over the next few months as well as take pressure off the dad, Charles, who works at a local Caltex Garage.”

Funds will be used for

  • immediate medical bills
  • future medical bills Or operations
  • recovery and any physiotherapy required
  • financial assistance towards family as well as travel costs to and from the hospital as the family does not have a car.

We cannot imagine the feelings Jane is having to process during this time nor the stress Charles must be under to make his family whole again. We hope that with the help of Liezel and the greater South African community, the family will be able to safely navigate this stressful time.

The accident is being investigated so hopefully Jane will get the proper treatment going forward. If you would like to support this cause, you can donate via BackaBuddy here or contact Liezel via Facebook to donate in other ways.
