The Revived Pulse Foundation gives people in need access to life-saving measures like pacemakers and medical funds to undergo major heart procedures.

South Africa (31 October 2024) – In 2013, Faan Botha’s life took an unexpected turn. A heart patient in urgent need of care, Faan was given a second chance at life thanks to the donation of a pacemaker. This selfless act of kindness not only restored his health but inspired him to help others in similar circumstances. With a heart full of gratitude, Faan founded the Revived Pulse Foundation in 2018—a non-profit organisation dedicated to providing life-saving heart products and services to those who might otherwise not afford them.

The mission is simple yet powerful: to ensure that no heart patient in need is left behind. Many people facing cardiac issues find themselves caught between life and death, burdened by healthcare costs they simply cannot afford. Even with medical aid, patients often struggle to cover the full expense of treatments or devices essential to their survival. This is where Revived Pulse steps in, working to bridge the gap and give these patients a fighting chance to continue life’s moments with their loved ones.

Since the foundation’s inception, nearly 30 individuals have been aided by helping them cover medical costs and connecting them to critical cardiac resources and care.

“We’re deeply grateful to the many players in the medical field who have generously contributed their time and expertise to support our efforts. With their help, and the support of kind-hearted donors, Revived Pulse is able to offer hope to families facing cardiac challenges.”

“In September 2024, to mark World Heart Month, we celebrated our fourth annual Le Tour De Spirit of the Great Heart—a 6-day, 640km cycling journey through the heart of South Africa.”

This event saw ten dedicated cyclists and five support members tackle a challenging route from Beaufort West, birthplace of heart surgery pioneer Dr. Christiaan Barnard, through Merweville, Sutherland, Ceres, and finally to Mediclinic Vergelegen Hospital in Somerset West. Each kilometre was ridden in tribute to the strength of heart patients who may not have the physical capacity to cycle, but whose bravery and determination to survive are an inspiration to us all.

The Revived Pulse Foundation believes that with every heartbeat, there’s hope, and with each donation or act of support, there’s an opportunity to save a life. We invite more people to join us in making a difference—not only through donations but also by contributing time, skills, and resources. Together, we can truly make a lasting impact on the lives of heart patients in South Africa, one beat at a time.

“Thank you to everyone who has stood with us so far. Every gesture of support, every hour given, every skill shared—has brought new hope to patients and their families. You are the heartbeat of this foundation.”
