Sand Sculptor

Councillor Zahid Badroodien, City of Cape Town Mayoral Committee Member has offered to help talented sand sculptor get a special permit for beach busking.

Innocent Zungu is a talented sand sculptor who displays his artworks on beaches across  Cape Town. He is a firm favourite and people often post pictures of his sculptures on social media.

Because he makes tips from his sculptures, he is classified as a busker and requires a special permit. Councillor Zahid Badroodien took time to head down to the beach to meet Innocent and see his art for himself.

Cllr. Zahid decided to help Innocent get the Special Busking Permit he needs. He spoke to Kieno Kammies to explain how the permit works.

“I visited him over the weekend and I said to him if you have any problems please come to me.”

“My engagement will be to assist him in order to attain the Special Busking Permit.”

Innocent isn’t the first sand sculptor to be helped out with permits. Michael Myekwa was featured on Good Things Guy for his sand sculptures on Fish Hoek beach and he was successfully assisted by the city. Siyabonga Duma, also featured on GTG, used his suclptures as a way to prove that even if you are unemployed, you don’t have to turn to begging to succeed in life.

Take a look at some of Innocents sculptures below.
