You would never say that a now fully active Shayaan Jacobs was born with bilateral clubfoot, a condition that can significantly impact mobility. Through gentle treatment, the vibrant four-year-old gets to enjoy an active life, especially his beloved soccer!

Cape Town, South Africa (14 January 2025) – When a little boy diagnosed with a physical deformity that could have easily made walking a painful challenge overcomes it and goes on to thrive in sports, you know there’s reason to believe (and hold on to the hope) that a full life exists on the other side of sickness.

Although he was born with bilateral clubfoot, Shayaan Jacobs now stands tall as an energetic 4-year-old who gets to run, play and chase after a soccer ball with boundless joy!

Left untreated the condition can cause a limp, skin sores or calluses, and problems wearing shoes. But thankfully for Shayaan, he received expert care from STEPS.

Through the Ponseti Method, a gentle and effective treatment, Shayaan’s feet were gradually corrected. With the loving support of his family and the dedicated teams at Maitland Cottage and Red Cross Clubfoot Clinics, this little champion embraced his treatment journey and came out stronger!

When his mom, Gafsa, first heard the diagnosis, she was overwhelmed and unsure of what lay ahead. But her first visit to Maitland Cottage Children’s Hospital changed everything.

“The staff were so caring and supportive—it gave me hope,” she shares.

Today, Shayaan is unstoppable. He’s a busy, joyful child whose love for soccer reminds us all that clubfoot is no barrier to living a full and active life!

Gafsa’s advice to other parents is simple yet powerful:

“Do not be afraid. Trust the journey and the incredible doctors treating your child. With care and faith, everything will be okay.”
