Talented Heurada has always loved dancing and has taken every opportunity to expand her skill; as a self-taught young lady, her community is celebrating her admission to the Waterfront Theatre School.
Overberg, South Africa (19 October 2023) – Raw talent is what has made young Heurada’s dream come true. It has earned the talented dancer a place at the Waterfront Theatre School and her community is celebrating her success. Lindsay Moncrieff from Over-Ed reached out to share Heurada’s happy news.
Lindsay explains that she met Heurada in 2017 when she was in her final year of primary school. The Napier Amateur Dramatic Society (NADS) was putting on its annual Pantomime and Heurada had signed up to join. At the time, she had never been in a show before but she had raw talent shining through. Since then, Heurada has loved the theatre, dance and putting on shows.
The Napier Amateur Dramatic Society (NADS) brings underprivileged children from Napier, Overberg together, to celebrate the arts and expand their talents. NADS aims to create and develop local youth talent by giving them the opportunity to perform on stage.
Heurada took the stage with great enthusiasm and before long, she was helping put on the Pantomimes, choreographing and teaching the children.
Having matriculated from Bredasdorp High School in 2021, she set her heart on doing more for the theatre.
“She proceeded to help produce the pantomime, The Wizard of Oz which went onstage in March 2022 with 350 kids on stage. “
“Heurada has had no formal training and did not have the benefit of 5 high school years of dance and drama classes, like so many kids in the private school system. She got accepted at WTS using her incredible talent. We are very proud of her.” – Lindsay Moncrieff
When the opportunity to audition for the Waterfront Theatre School happened, Heurada just had to do it. She was driven to Cape Town and gave her very best performance and it worked! The raw talent she has nurtured over the years shone through and the school could see just how talented she is and what she can become.
“Her parents cannot afford tertiary education.
We at The Overberg Education Centre mentor youngsters and have provided guidance and assistance for the past 5 years. We provided laptops and a safe house with internet access for matrics to study during the Covid lockdowns. Heurada was one of them.
We desperately need funding now to assist her to achieve her dream of attending the Waterfront Theatre School.”
Over-Ed is helping raise the funds needed for Heurada to attend the prestigious theatre school in 2024. They are registered as an NPO and are able to provide a tax certificate for any donations sent in. Should you wish to help Heurada, you can reach out to Lindsay via email here.
