Balancing the demands of matric was tough, but Wilna and Selmé Beetge came out on top and scored straight As – together! The siblings are now readying themselves for an exciting new chapter at the University of Pretoria.

Pretoria, South Africa (30 January 2026) – High school is a whirlwind of academic pressure, social hurdles, and the constant juggle of sports and personal life. As most teens will tell you, it’s rarely a walk in the park.

Thankfully, the Beetge twins didn’t have to go through those ebbs and flows alone. Guided by discipline, deep-rooted faith, and family support, they did more than just survive their final year of high school. They conquered it, passing their matric exams with flying colours and are now stepping into an exciting new chapter, side by side.

Wilna and Selmé Beetge were both prefects and top academic achievers at Hoërskool Menlopark, with Wilna achieving with an outstanding average of 92% and nine distinctions. Selmé scored an impressive 88% with six distinctions and was the top performer at her school in Tourism.

“Seeing the results made all the hard work, long hours and sacrifices worthwhile,” Wilna says.

“My sister stayed up until midnight to check our results, so when I woke up the next morning, the first thing I heard was that I had nine distinctions – I was over the moon.”

Selmé says she felt “extremely proud and relieved” as her results reflected her dedication and efforts.

While they admit that managing their academic workload and making time for sport, social life and other personal responsibilities was not easy, it helped them develop resilience and discipline.

The two sisters are now counting down the days until they officially start their new journey as university students at the University of Pretoria (UP).

Wilna will be heading to UP to study actuarial science, while Selmé will pursue a BCom Accounting degree.

“What excites me about studying accounting is the opportunity to gain strong financial and analytical skills that are essential in the business world,” Selmé says.

Wilna has always loved numbers, and shares that studying actuarial sciences feels like the perfect fit for her.

With a strong foundation built of faith and family, and the sisterly support they have in each other, the twins are set to excel in their respective courses.
