4 Paws and a Tale Rescue has sent out an urgent plea for help with abandoned pets from the South Coast; they are collecting blankets, food and kennels.

KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa (10 June 2024) – With the temperatures dropping and funding running low, many street animals and those in rescue shelters are in dire need of food and warmth. Scottburgh-based NPO 4 Paws and a Tale Rescue, which cares for abandoned pets and street animals throughout the region, is calling for urgent donations to meet the growing need.

“Winter is always a more challenging time of year as these destitute animals require more shelter and food to protect from the warmth,” commented Nicky Koekemoer of 4 Paws and a Tale Rescue.

“We’ve also been inundated with more dogs and cats at our 4 Paws and a Tale Rescue sanctuary while we continue to feed and medicate hundreds of dogs in the surrounding areas. We’re in desperate need of donations of food, blankets, and kennels in working order from anyone who can provide, as well as any pre-loved items which can be donated to our shop to generate funds.”

For years, Nicky and her selfless team of volunteers have cared for abused and neglected strays, fought to prevent animal abuse, and re-homed dogs and cats to forever homes. The cost of running the sanctuary, as well as the 4 Paws and a Tale outreach programme runs into the thousands as food, sterilisation, and medical costs have to be covered. The NPO is wholly reliant on outside donations and community support, and the need continues to grow.

How can you help?

  • Donate quality, pre-loved items to the Tale End Charity Shop in Thira Village, 142 Scott Street, Scottburgh and support the shop.
  • Donate dog and cat food, blankets, or kennels which can be dropped at the 4 Paws Umzinto sanctuary or contact Nicky on 084 626 5508 to collect.
  • Adopt a pet.
  • Donate cash to support sterilisations, food programmes, and running costs.
