Cape Town turned into a racetrack paradise as supercars and racing legends faced off on one of the most scenic courses.
Cape Town, South Africa (29 October 2025) – Cape Town’s heartbeat raced to the rhythm of roaring engines this past weekend as nearly 80 supercars and hillclimb beasts lit up Philip Kgosana Drive for the first-ever Speed Classic Cape Town. With Table Mountain and the Atlantic in the background, the city witnessed passion in motion.
Speed Classic Cape Town Race Director Enzo Kuun described the course best.
“To race with Table Mountain to my right, the Atlantic Ocean to my left and Lion’s Head behind me was an absolute privilege and epic experience.”
From Ferraris and McLarens to Lamborghinis and single-seater monsters packing over 1000 horsepower, it was a spectacle as drivers went head-to-head on the 1.8km closed course.

When the dust finally settled, it was Franco Scribante who claimed the inaugural King of the Mountain title behind the wheel of his 2018 Nissan GTR R35, clocking an incredible 35.260 seconds. Just 0.599 seconds behind him was Reghard Roets, also in a 2014 Nissan GTR R35, while Dawie Joubert rounded the podium in his Lotus Exige with a time of 37.407 seconds.
For Franco, who had finished runner-up during Classic Car Saturday, victory on Sunday was extra sweet.
“It was a really great day for us. We were absolutely nowhere when we got to the Class Finals, so I knew we would have to dig deep. But I didn’t know if it would be enough, so it was a miracle that it all came together for the final run and I cannot wait to be back again next year.”
While the crowd cheered Franco’s stunning run, there was heartbreak for Pieter Zeelie, one of the top contenders throughout the day. A faulty start on his final run cost him a chance at the crown.

And it wasn’t just the racers feeling the adrenaline. Over 15,000 spectators poured through the gates, while nearly 180,000 fans tuned in online to catch the weekend action.
Event Director Garth Mackintosh could not have been prouder of the debut success.
“To see our vision come to fruition has been extremely satisfying. I think you can only get bigger and better from here and we are ready to invest and create a future event that can only go from strength to strength.”
