After raising funds outside a local butchery just a year ago, young gymnast Josh is now set to represent South Africa at the World Championships, but he’s hoping his coach, Lucky, can join him with a little help from the community.
Randburg, South Africa (31 October 2025) – Just a year ago, outside Impala Butchery in Randburg, two brothers were selling sweet packs to raise funds for one of them to chase a dream. That dream belonged to 14-year-old Josh, a trampoline gymnast who was aiming for the South African Gymnastics Nationals. With a goal of R10,000, the duo had already raised R4,000 from their sweet sales alone.
Fast forward a year, and Josh’s story has taken him from local fundraisers to national glory. After his hard work and the support of the community, he not only competed at the SA Championships but dominated in his age category. His sights are now set even higher, as he prepares to represent South Africa at the World Championships in Spain.
But behind every great athlete is a coach who believes just as fiercely in the dream. For Josh, that’s Coach Lucky, a mentor whose guidance, discipline, and encouragement have shaped his journey from backyard jumps to world-class routines.
You may recall the video I did last year of two brothers selling sweet packs to raise money for the one brother to go to the SA Champs in trampoline. Well, he won his age category & is heading to the world champs in Spain!! Take a listen to the initiative he took! @GoodThingsGuy https://t.co/KWwGtHFR89 pic.twitter.com/R6gP8BKjyf

Now, as Josh gears up for Spain, the mission extends beyond one athlete. The community is rallying once again. This time to help get Coach Lucky to the World Championships too, ensuring Josh has the guidance and support he needs on the global stage.
Josh’s story is a masterclass in dedication. He saved up every bit of pocket and birthday money he could, spending up to six or seven hours a day training.
“All I did was jump on that trampoline till half past ten at night.”
Thanks to the generosity of supporters, his SA Championships journey was fully covered, from flights, accommodation, and all.
“It was really amazing. All just because of the sport and the people who love and supported us.”
Now, the next chapter is being written, one that includes his coach, his teammates, and a dream that’s only grown bigger.
You can help make it happen by contributing to their BackaBuddy campaign, ensuring both Josh and Coach Lucky make it to the World Championships in Spain.
