Parents of children enrolled in the Judo programme at ‘Inspire Children, and Youth’ started selling boerewors rolls to raise funds for an upcoming competition.

Malmesbury, South Africa (01 March 2022) – Inspire Children and Youth, an NPO in Malmesbury, Western Cape, are applauding a group of parents for coming together to raise money by selling boerewors rolls. The parents are making sure their children get the opportunity to rise up beyond their poverty.

Malmesbury has a high poverty and abuse rate, and many parents have been trying to break that cycle for their children. A group of moms are doing this by hoping to get their children to a Judo competition.

The judo classes are a haven for children, and the classes were founded by the non-profit organisation ‘Inspire Children and Youth’. The organisation develops rural development strategies to help unlock the potential of children, youth and women on farms and in rural communities through business and development activities.

The Judo participants were invited to participate in a competition, but registration is around R4000 for the whole group. Many families cannot afford the fees and have opted to work together to pay for everyone to go.

The organisation was really impressed by the initiative adopted by the parents and took to social media to share their praise.

“The parents made R340 and the cost of the stall was R200. Although they are a long way off before they reach their target of R4000, yet, their smiles were so broad on their faces and their eyes full of sparks because they raised money to support their children’s dream to compete in Judo.

Whilst so many parents are intoxicated, this hand full of women are determined to end a generational cycle in which they were born. They are eager to end the forms of abuse that they together with their children are suffering into a peaceful, stable and secure environment.

Their plan is to have another stall next weekend to help them reach their fundraising target. If you are attending the rugby match next week, please support our INSPIREjudo food stall and help the mothers to reach their fundraising target in aid of their children’s dream. If you are too far away, you can help by making a special donation to the mothers’ efforts by clicking on the link below. Thank you so much and a special thanks to the rural farm women who are showing their children a different side to a month-end weekend. We are so proud of you.” – Inspire Children and Youth
