South African wheelchair tennis stars Kgothatso Montjane and Donald Ramphadi have once again brought immense pride to the nation with their outstanding performances at Roland Garros in Paris!
Paris, France (10 June 2025) – Our very own wheelchair tennis star Kgothatso Montjane pulled out all the stops at the Roland Garros in Paris, securing her fourth Grand Slam champion title!
According to Team South Africa, Montjane, the 39-year-old Paralympic sensation, secured her fourth Grand Slam champion title by triumphing in the wheelchair doubles French Open.
Partnering with Japan’s Yui Kamiji, the formidable duo overcame China’s No. 2 seeds, Xiaohui Li and Ziying Wang, in a thrilling match that went to a deciding tie-break, finishing 4-6, 7-5 [10-7], to take the title. This victory follows their earlier successes at the 2023 French Open, the 2023 US Open, and the 2024 Wimbledon championships, SABC Sport confirms.
Montjane was earlier beaten in the semi-finals of the women’s wheelchair singles by Aniek Van Koot of the Netherlands, going down 6-4 6-2 to the No. 2 seed.
Meanwhile, 2024 Paris Paralympics bronze medallist Donald Ramphadi, 31, also had a highly successful week in the French capital. Teaming up with Turkey’s Ahmet Kaplan, he reached the final of the quad wheelchair doubles after an impressive semi-final win against the No. 2 seeds Andy Lapthorne and Sam Schroder.
However, they were beaten by the No. 1 seeds Guy Sasson (Israel) and Niels Vink (Netherlands) in the final. The top seeds won 6-3, 6-4 in 89 minutes.
National assets in their own right, both Montjane and Ramphadi’s strong finishes and inspiring achievements have reaffirmed South Africa’s strong presence in the world of wheelchair tennis, filling the country with immense pride.
