The Proteas get off to a flying start in the T20 series, as Aiden Markram leads the batting charge and George Linde’s three-wicket haul earns him Man of the Match honours.
Paarl, South Africa (28 January 2026) – South Africa made a confident start to their T20 series against the West Indies, cruising to a comfortable win under the lights at Boland Park in Paarl on Tuesday evening.
Chasing a competitive target, the Proteas never looked rushed, with captain Aiden Markram setting the tone from the outset. Aiden anchored the chase with an unbeaten innings that guided South Africa home with plenty to spare.
The opening partnership laid the foundation early on. Lhuan-dre Pretorius brought his game, hitting the boundary regularly and keeping the scoreboard moving. Together, they ensured the chase stayed firmly on track, putting pressure back on the West Indies bowlers.
After Lhuan-dre departed, Aiden simply shifted gears. His innings reached a personal milestone along the way, before he sealed the win in style as South Africa crossed the line with more than two overs remaining.
Ryan Rickelton also offered solid support and helping close out the match without further loss.
Not forgetting George Linde’s performance! Returning to figures of 3 for 25 and earning Player of the Match honours in a win that set the foundation. At 34, he is set to be one of seven Proteas players making their debut at the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, proving that impact can arrive at any age.
