Stellenbosch transforms into a world-class stage as South African golfers take centre stage this week, showcasing their talent alongside international stars.
Stellenbosch, South Africa (26 February 2026) – South Africa takes centre stage this week as the 115th Investec South African Open returns, bringing with it global attention, rich history and the promise of opportunity.
With a sold-out Stellenbosch Golf Club, the championship is being celebrated as “A Tribute to History”.
Multiple Major winner Ernie Els reflected on his long connection with the South African Open, recalling how he first played in the tournament as a 16-year-old and noting how meaningful it has been to see the event grow and continue to highlight South African golfing talent.
For the players, it is a moment to represent the country, its golfing heritage and its future. Defending champion Dylan Naidoo, looks forward to the exciting week.
“This has always been the one tournament that means the most to us as South African golfers. This one has the history and the gravitas. It’s a really exciting week. I want to give my absolute best this week.”
World number 18, Patrick Reed is making his debut in the Investec South African Open and is equally excited.
“I’m sorry it’s taken me so long to get down here because South Africa is beautiful.”
Former champion Branden Grace believes the event carries special weight for local players.
“It’s our biggest event as South African golfers. Now the rest of the world will see what this tournament means to us.”
Dean Burmester echoed those sentiments, highlighting the pride of competing on home soil in a field that includes leading international names alongside South African greats.
“I have so many fond memories of this event and all the history that goes with it.”
That young talent includes Casey Jarvis, who arrives fresh from his maiden DP World Tour victory.
“This tournament also means the world to us as South Africans. The set-up here is amazing, the field is really strong, and it’s great to see some big overseas names wanting to come and play here.”
The championship unfolds in Stellenbosch and it is not only about global qualification spots or big names. It’s also about South Africa and its players.
This year’s #InvestecSAOpen field is one for the ages.
