Anthony George Kirkwood, a local videographer, travelled to Tugela Falls in the Drakensberg Amphitheatre to film the incredible beauty of South Africa.
The Drakensberg, South Africa (30 March 2021) – South Africa is a beautiful country, and while we may be a little biased, it is also very true. We love sharing the beauty of our country with people all over the world.
Anthony George Kirkwood has been filming his travels around the country and making stunning videos that serve as pretty great adverts for South Africa. His videos highlight the beauty of parts of South Africa that don’t get as much praise as our coastlines and wildlife. Anthony’s latest trip took him to the Drakensberg Amphitheatre, where he filmed the Tugela Falls.
Tugela Falls is a complex of seasonal waterfalls located in the Drakensberg of Royal Natal National Park in KwaZulu-Natal. Did you know that Tugela Falls is the highest waterfall in Africa and the second-highest in the world? The falls cascade down 950 meters in five cascades; this makes it the world’s highest cascading waterfall.
The best time to view the falls is after good rains when the water flows powerfully over the Drakensberg Amphitheatre. It is said when it gets really cold, you can see frozen ice pillars on the outer parts of the falls. To view the falls, you will need to be moderately fit and prepared to walk to see them. Please be sure to do your research before setting off on this adventure.
Take a look at Anthony’s video below; it is breathtaking and has us wanting to lace up our hiking boots.
