The Robin Hood Foundation (RHF) brought a day of breathtaking joy and fearless fun to the extraordinary children of Ethembeni Special School, whose limitless hearts filled the day with courage and pure magic.
Durban, South Africa (18 November 2025) – Following months of planning and rallying, the Robin Hood Foundation (RHF) was able to successfully give the extraordinary children of Ethembeni Special School a day they will never forget!
For 40 years, Ethembeni, a state-subsidised school for children with physical and visual impairments, has served as a home away from home in Outer West Durban for many who travel hundreds of kilometres to receive specialised education.
RHF has made it a point to bring joy and the magic of the holiday season to these precious souls at the end of every year by hosting a fun-filled celebration.
Last week Thursday, 165 children got to enjoy inflatable slides using just their arms or legs, zoom down water rides with the biggest smiles, wheel themselves fearlessly into the fun, dig into tasty treats and encourage their friends every step of the way.
Reflecting on the day that the team describes as one that changed them, they said it was the children who truly filled the day with courage, joy, and pure magic.
“These children, living with physical disabilities, teach us more about strength and spirit than we could ever teach them. Their care for one another, the way they cheer each other on, the way they laugh, dance, splash, climb, and LIVE — it is breathtaking. They don’t let their disabilities define them. They don’t focus on what they “can’t” do. They simply turn their can’ts into CANs, again and again.”
These innocent souls remind us all what resilience and embracing life despite undeserved odds truly look like.

Heading to the Coast This Weekend? The NSRI Has an Important Safety ReminderThe RHF expressed its heartfelt gratitude to its donors and community of supporters who, through their kindness and generosity, made the 2025 Ethembeni Celebration possible.
Because of them, 165 children got to enjoy a day overflowing with music, dance, games, face painting, rides and delicious food, and more importantly, helped create a day where every child felt seen, valued, supported and loved.

“This wasn’t just a party. It was a reminder that joy is a right, not a luxury, for every child. You helped give them a day they will talk about for months, a day that lifted their spirits, and filled their hearts… and ours too,” thanked the RHF team.
