Good Hope FM joined Rise Against Hunger Africa at GrandWest as volunteers packed enough meals to feed hundreds of Western Cape children.
Cape Town, South Africa (13 July 2026) – More than 700 volunteers rolled up their sleeves at GrandWest this week, proving that a few hours of teamwork can make a lasting difference in the lives of hundreds of children.
The meal-packing initiative, hosted by Rise Against Hunger Africa as part of Mandela Month, saw volunteers prepare an incredible 129,600 nutritious meals destined for vulnerable children across the Western Cape.
Those meals will help feed around 563 children attending Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres throughout the school year, giving them access to daily nutrition while supporting their learning during some of the most important years of their development.
Joining the effort was Good Hope FM, with The Good Hope FM Morning Show with Leigh-Anne Williams broadcasting live from GrandWest before the station’s presenters swapped microphones for meal-packing stations.

Leigh-Anne Williams, Garth B, Michaela Muller and other members of the Good Hope FM team joined hundreds of volunteers on the production line, helping package meals while encouraging listeners to get involved in Mandela Month initiatives.
The event forms part of Rise Against Hunger Africa’s ambitious Feed the Future- Pack 3 Million Meals in 31 Days campaign, which aims to mobilise businesses, schools, community groups and volunteers across the country throughout July.
Good Hope FM Business Manager Masi Mdingane said Mandela Month is a reminder that radio has the power to do far more than entertain.
He said the station was proud to stand alongside Rise Against Hunger Africa and contribute to an initiative that creates meaningful change for communities. The campaign is far from over!
Good Hope FM will once again join Rise Against Hunger Africa on 17 July at Morgenhof Wine Estate in Stellenbosch, where another large-scale meal-packing event will bring together volunteers determined to continue Nelson Mandela’s legacy of service.
At the same time, sister station 5FM will also take part in Johannesburg, broadcasting live from the Sandton Convention Centre while presenters, celebrities and volunteers help pack thousands more meals.
Rise Against Hunger Africa is encouraging businesses, schools and community groups to become part of the movement, with every packed meal helping ensure that more children have the nutrition they need to thrive.
