Actress Nomzamo Mbatha has an incredible 2023 ahead of her as she stars alongside Bruce Willis and takes on the role of Queen Nandi, the mother of King Shaka, King of the Zulu.
South Africa (09 March 2023) – Nomzamo Mbatha’s star is rising; the proudly South African actress has shared that she starred alongside Bruce Willis and Dominic Purcell (Prison Break) in a new feature film called Assassin.
Nomzamo Mbatha is a well-known South African actress and television personality best known as one of the three finalists in the 2012 MTV Base VJ Search. She landed her first acting role as Thandeka in the Mzansi Magic telenovela-turned-soap-opera isiBaya, in 2013.
Mbatha was born in KwaMashu, north of Durban. She is known among her friends for being full of life, with tons of personality, a big heart and the gift of the gab.
While still at school she used to be invited to speak at other schools around Durban and was subsequently invited to become Madam Speaker in the KZN Youth Parliament.
She never moved away from her love of speaking and took to acting. She has played various roles over the years with her more notable roles to date being Mirembe in “Coming to America 2” and now the two we have the excitement of sharing below.
Joining Bruce Willis, Mbatha plays Alexa in the upcoming Assassin which showcases the future of hired killers.
“A private military operation invents a futuristic microchip technology that enables the mind of an agent to inhabit the body of another person to carry out covert, deadly missions. However, when an agent gets killed during a secret mission, his wife takes his place in an attempt to bring the man responsible to justice.”

That isn’t all that is coming to theatres this year. Nomzamo also played the pivotal role of Queen Nandi Bhebhe in the upcoming Shaka Ilembe series produced for Mzanzi Magic.
“Set in the 1700s, Shaka ilembe tells the story of the making of the iconic African king, with iterations from his early childhood through to adulthood. The production has been six years in the making, consulting historians, academics, and family descendants, including the incumbent King Misuzulu ka Zwelithini, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, as well as the late King Goodwill Zwelithini.”
The production value of this series looks Oscar-worthy and we are really looking forward to watching a key piece of South African history played out on screen. Take a look at the trailer below.
