The Ann Harding Cheshire Home Gears Up for Casual Day 2023

The Ann Harding Cheshire Home is gearing up for Casual Day this coming Friday and is reminding supporters to get their best Civvis ready.

Randburg, South Africa (29 August 2023) – Casual Day takes place on the 1st of September this year and the Ann Harding Cheshire Home is selling the sticker needed to wear casual clothing to school or work. They are hoping to raise funds to help cover the costs of running the home and supporting their 40 residents.

Casual Day is South Africa’s leading fundraising & awareness campaign for Persons with Disabilities and is the flagship project of the National Council of and for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD).

Cheshire Homes was founded by Royal Air Force pilot Geoffrey Leonard Cheshire in 1946 when he welcomed a man with nowhere to go into his own home. Leonard nursed and cared for the man, and a year later, he was looking after 24 individuals with varying degrees of complex needs, illnesses and impairments.

The need for homes that catered to adults with special needs was great, and before long, several homes were opened in the UK. The first international home was set up in Mumbai, India, in the 1960s. Not long after that, the concept spread globally.

Today the Cheshire Homes are a haven for adults with disabilities, especially those who have lost the families that once cared for them.

In South Africa, the homes are not only a place of residence; they offer many services, including day centres, transport, employment and skills development, to name a few. Many of the centres also have charity shops that help fund the homes’ efforts.

Each home raises funds for the running of things and the Ann Harding house is selling Casual Day stickers. From every sticker sold, the Ann Harding Cheshire Home gets R9.00 – While that may not sound like much alone, the more stickers sold, the more they manage to raise.
