What’s 16 September? To some, an ordinary Saturday. But to those who want to exercise their eco-warrior muscles, it’s World Cleanup Day and a big Trash Bash is on the horizon in Cape Town!

Monwabisi Beach, South Africa (01 September 2023) — Whether you’re a dedicated trash basher, a beach cleaning newbie or someone looking to get involved in an event that’ll leave you feeling closer to nature, 16 September has your name on it! The Two Oceans Aquarium’s big Trash Bash beach cleanup is on, and what better way to welcome warmer tidings?

No regular Saturday, the big day falls on International Coastal Cleanup Day and World Cleanup Day. Monwabisi Beach will take centre stage for families, friends and ocean lovers alike.

Beyond getting your hands dirty and checking off a to-do on that eco-bucket list, the Trash Bash will also feature edu-activities like the mobile marine classroom for children (and adults) to learn about the wonder that is aquatic biodiversity.

Then there’s Captain Fanplastic (an interactive storyteller), the sense of community kindness and the opportunity to gear up for spring with a little sand in your shoes, a sea breeze in your sails and the knowing that you did your part to make a regular Saturday an impactful one!
