The Khayelitsha-born winner will represent South Africa internationally as the leadership programme celebrates 23 years of environmental action and women’s empowerment.

South Africa (18 October 2026) – At 24, Hlombe Ndzube is stepping into a new chapter as Miss Earth South Africa 2026, earning the opportunity to represent the country at the international Miss Earth competition in the Philippines in November.

Originally from Khayelitsha, Ndzube was announced as the winner during the programme’s 2026 crowning event at Thaba Eco Hotel. She will be joined by first runner-up Ronewa Mafunza from Limpopo, followed by Johannesburg’s Alicia Duminy and Karla J van Rensburg in third and fourth place respectively.

The announcement marks another milestone for the Miss Earth South Africa Leadership and Empowerment Programme, which is celebrating its 23rd year of developing young women through leadership, education and environmental action.

The programme goes beyond pageantry, equipping participants with practical knowledge and encouraging them to become active citizens who make a difference in their communities.

Its initiatives include tree planting, food gardens, clean-up campaigns, conservation projects and environmental education. Participants also explore issues such as waste reduction, water conservation, upcycling and slow fashion, turning awareness into practical action.

All four winners will serve as ambassadors for the organisation and its environmental projects throughout their year of reign, using their platforms to encourage more sustainable choices and community involvement. The programme’s work is supported by a network of partners spanning environmental conservation, wellness, fashion, education and business. Wildroute, GebCo and 3Sixty Compost, for example, contribute to environmental initiatives focused on tree planting, clean-ups and responsible resource use.

Corporate and community partnerships also help provide opportunities and resources for the finalists as they prepare for their roles.

The annual crowning is about more than recognising four winners. It is an opportunity to continue building a generation of women who can share their knowledge, inspire others and contribute to positive change.

As Miss Earth South Africa enters its 23rd year, its central message remains clear: meaningful leadership is not simply about holding a title, but about using the opportunities it brings to serve people and protect the planet.
