Sara Thomas, fondly known as Ouma Fytjie, was born on August 23, 1923, on Arundel Farm; this year she celebrated her 100th birthday.
Noupoort, South Africa (10 September 2023) – Ouma Fytjie’s life has been one of selflessness and community building. She has helped raise numerous children, many of whom have gone on to achieve remarkable success in the fields of education and health. Her legacy of kindness and dedication has undoubtedly left an indelible mark on the Noupoort community and beyond.
She has been an integral part of this community for more than 70 years, where she is known for her care and commitment to the lives of others.
Ouma Fytjie currently resides at her own home but spends her time at the Inam Inkosi Home for Elderly and Sick People. Here she has received the very same care and commitment she so generously gave to others over the years.
To celebrate her big day, her community came together to honour her 100 years in the best way! Ouma Fytjie was showered in gifts, had enough cake to feed her community and was taken out for a delicious meal at the local restaurant.
Her birthday celebration was a collaboration between the Inam Inkosi Home for Elderly and Sick People, South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) and the Noupoort Wind Farm which sponsored the day.
“Ouma Fytjie’s remarkable journey through life has touched the hearts of all who know her. She has been an integral part of our community, and her enduring spirit and contributions are celebrated with great enthusiasm,” said Sandisiwe Mntonintshi, Economic Development Manager, Noupoort Wind Farm.
