National Cupcake Day was a sweet success this year! Over R2 million was raised thanks to community cupcake efforts from all over South Africa, which will bake a big difference in the lives of young cancer patients, through financial support for treatments.

South Africa (05 October 2023) — Cupcakes and their angel bakers from all over South Africa achieved a sweet success in the spirit of National Cupcake Day through sprinkles, sweat, and now, tears of joy.

The assignment for Cupcakes of HOPE was simple: rally as many people as possible to bake a difference for children with cancer.

Unlike most baking challenges, this one valued one ingredient above all others—effort.

People put on their aprons, called on their friends, family and neighbourhood sweet tooth and let their creative juices flow to create gorgeous (and delicious) assortments.

On Saturday, 30 September, over 60 malls across South Africa turned into cupcake sweet spots from the Vaal Triangle to Tygervalley.

And, thanks to everyone who contributed cupcakes big, small, colourful and proudly South African, R2,278,525 was raised.

Last year, Cupcakes of HOPE fundraised R2.1 million which means this year’s sweet success was a testament to the positive trajectory of community activism.

These funds helped financially assist hundreds of young cancer patients last year, and this year’s results mean even more help is on the way.

As Cupcakes of HOPE shares:

“Each and every cupcake bought or donation given will go towards our over 230 cancer warriors and their treatments. Last month our youngest patient was only 4 months old!

“May God continue to bless all our amazing Cupcake Angels, may we continue to spread even more Cupcake LOVE all across South Africa.”
