Some inspiration for us all to wear our love badges this month!
Bedfordview, South Africa (25 September 2026) – With just a little bit of love, everything feels a whole lot lighter.
The Grade 8 students at St Luke’s College in Bedfordview were recently asked to put their favourite four-letter word into action.
“Last week, our Grade 8 students were challenged to show that love is an action, not just words.” the school shared on social media.
The learners were encouraged to pledge how they’d show their love in action for the week, write it down, and wear it as a badge.
“They pledged to love in action and wore their promise with pride, choosing to show kindness, care and love in every way.”
It’s a simple challenge, but also a lovely reminder of just how much power there is in the way we treat one another. Love shows up in all the small things, friends. It is someone holding the door when your hands are full. A message checking up on you. Making a cup of tea for someone who has had a rough day. Giving up your seat. Helping with the groceries. Feeding someone who is hungry. Offering a compliment when you could just as easily have walked past. Sometimes it could simply be choosing to be patient with somebody who might be having a harder day than you realise.
Those are the little things really worth holding onto right now. Things feel heavy in South Africa. We get tired. We get frustrated. We worry about money, safety, our families and everything happening around us. Some days, it is very easy to feel fed up with the world.
We cannot fix all of those things with a badge pinned to our shirts. But we can make the little corner of the world around us a bit softer.
That was really the beauty of what these Grade 8 learners were asked to do. They had to think about love as something they could actually do.
