Volunteer firefighter Liam Gannon is on a quest to take on one of the biggest runs of his life – The Rock Ultra 100km Challenge. Why? To raise critical funds for the upcoming wildfire season and honour the memory of his late mother.

Western Cape, South Africa (24 October 2024) – A dedicated volunteer firefighter, Liam Gannon, is embarking on a journey as extraordinary as it is selfless!

Driven by a burning desire to protect his community from the devastating wildfires that threaten their homes and lives, Liam is lacing up his running shoes for one of the most challenging races of his life – The Rock Ultra. A 100km road race across Paarl Mountain.

On Saturday, 7 December 2024, Liam will take on the race, which is said to have an elevation gain of over 3,000 meters, wearing his full fire gear!

According to Volunteer Wildfire Services (VWS), Liam found solace in pushing his physical and mental limits through ultra-running as a way to cope after his mother faced a debilitating stroke.

Since her passing, every step he has taken is in her memory, and every race he has run helps those in need.

From the Comrades Marathon to the Two Oceans Ultra, Liam has used his passion for running to raise funds for causes close to his heart, including animal welfare and wildfire services.

Now, he needs an added push to support the invaluable work by VWS.

Your R100 donation (or more) will go directly toward the VWS, enabling the organisation to prepare for the fire season and continue protecting lives, property, and the beautiful landscape of the Western Cape.

As he pushes through the heat, exhaustion, and pain, your support will be the fuel that keeps him going.

Be a part of something truly heroic by donating to the VWS GivenGain page at https://www.givengain.com/campaign/100-for-100
