Coldplay and the Mzansi Youth Choir have teamed up in an epic collision of musical worlds and recently shared a behind-the-scenes look and listen of the Zulu spin on the song WE PRAY—a must-listen!

New York, USA (25 October 2024)— Coldplay and the Mzansi Youth Choir recently teamed up in an epic collision of musical worlds that’s had fans from every city eager to hear what the famous names have been cooking up.

The Mzansi Youth Choir were invited to perform with Coldplay, where they got to sprinkle some Mzansi magic into the excitement surrounding the band’s tenth ((and potentially last) studio album—Moon Music.

In a recent video, Coldplay gave fans a behind the scenes look and listen from the collaboration with South Africa’s beloved voices—and it’s as beautiful as you’d imagine.

The clip (which is just shy of 4 million views) is from their rehearsal for the song WE PRAY as prepped for the QVC performance. The Mzansi Youth Choir shared that this performance offered them the opportunity to add a Zulu verse into the mix just hours before the show. The verse was composed by Sidumo Nyamezele and spreads a message of faith and carrying good energy!

Some fans shared that the song feels like the ‘Anthem of the World’ while others agreed that the song gets better with every new version (the version on the album boasts the likes of Little Simz and Burna Boy amongst others.

For Coldplay, Moon Music is very much about the fluidity of eras (much like phases of the moon), vulnerability, spirituality and even a hint of rave and disco all turning around different themes of the human experience and the band’s position at this point in their incredible career.

“It’s our manifesto, or my way of looking at things right now. In terms of how to continue, how not to give up, how to accept reality, not run away from it, not hate anybody—even in the midst of always being filled with so many difficult emotions,” said Chris Martin per Apple Music.

For the Mzansi Youth Choir to have made music with the band at such a thoughtful time in their journey is quite a culmination of the fluidity the album speaks to—young voices, older ones, shared experiences and love.
