UKZN 19-year-old student, Yaseen Ali launched a YouTube channel called Skill Spark, where he shares his knowledge and simplifies complex accounting concepts. What started as a helpful resource quickly exploded in popularity, with thousands of students now relying on Yaseen’s engaging videos to ace their exams.

Westville, South Africa (15 January 2025) – When 19-year-old Yaseen Ali started his university journey as a first-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting (BCom Accounting) at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), his eagerness was soon dampened by the typical challenges of transitioning to university life.

In February last year, he launched a YouTube channel called Skill Spark to simplify complex course material and make learning accessible to students across his university.

“Skill Spark has since grown into a thriving platform where I teach the entire Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting curriculum.

“From foundational topics to advanced concepts, I create content designed to make learning engaging, relatable, and effective,” shares Yaseen.

He shares with Good Things Guy that not only has his platform been well received, but it has also amassed over 8,000 hours of watch time and close to 100,000 views!

“It has connected me with thousands of students who now feel empowered and confident in their studies.

“What started as a simple idea has grown into a vibrant community of learners,” says Yaseen.

Many students have shared how Skill Spark has transformed their understanding of course material and helped them succeed in their academic pursuits.

In Mzansi we rise by lifting others and Yaseen’s success has fuelled his passion for education and innovation and has motivated him to continue making a positive impact.

“Through this journey, I have learned the value of perseverance, the importance of sharing knowledge, and the power of building a supportive community. My story is a testament to the fact that one individual, regardless of age, can make a significant difference.”
