In a beautiful display of Ubuntu, the South African Police Service in the ZF Mgcawu District, alongside the Community Police Forum and local partners, recently visited the Riemvasmaak area to provide food and support to families in need.

Riemvasmaak, South Africa (17 January 2025) – One of the many, many things to love about our country is the spirit of Ubuntu that exists within its people who don’t look away when they notice someone in need of a meal, a hand-up or in a dire situation.

This compelling feeling to support and assist those in need beats in the hearts of everyday people, public figures and even our brave crime fighters in blue, who don’t hesitate to go beyond their law enforcement duties when the need arises.

Members of the South African Police Service (SAPS), together with the ZF Mgcawu District Community Police Forum, visited the Riemvasmaak area in the Northern Cape on Wednesday, 15 January, to give back to the community after identifying the shortcomings emanating from the area due to socio-economic challenges.

The day began with a heartfelt prayer, followed by the distribution of 100 food hampers to grateful families. This act of kindness brought immense relief to those struggling to put food on the table.

The programme was attended by the District Commissioner of ZFM, Major General Monica Sebili and her management team, the District CPF Chairperson Clement Baai and local CPF, the Ward Councillor, Ms Ethel Vass and the team from KDHT Investments company as sponsors of the programme.

According to SAPS, Major General Sebili emphasised the importance of collaboration between the police, community, and other stakeholders in not just fighting crime but also supporting each other.

During her keynote, she stressed that the police cannot work in isolation and pledged to maintain a strong and supportive relationship with the Riemvasmaak community.
