Siya Mfanta is the harness maker who also harnesses hope. With each marathon he takes on, he’s not just fueling his love for road running; he’s actively supporting the welfare of cart horses. Next up on his bucket list: The Comrades Marathon!

Cape Town, South Africa (05 June 2025) – Siya Mfanta, the beloved harness maker who never misses the opportunity to run for cart horses, is excitedly warming up for his upcoming marathon.

Mentally and physically preparing to take on his first-ever Comrades Marathon in two days, Siya will be channelling his love for road running for a cause close to his heart: to support the welfare of horses.

But behind his training, which sees him run 8.5km from Delft to work in Epping every day, is also the mission to save every bit of money he can to support his sister’s education at culinary school by paying her tuition.

Inspired by his dedication, Megan of the Cart Horse Protection Association (CHPA), where Siya has been working for six years, asked if he would run the Comrades Marathon for CHPA. Siya didn’t hesitate, saying it would be an honour!

Siya ran his first Cape Town Marathon last year and the Two Oceans Marathon this year, which not only saw him raise R54,698 for the CHPA but also secure a seeding of C-Group 1 for Comrades.

This Friday, he will be flying to Durban, another first for him, to add to his growing list of marathon accomplishments.

Siya hasn’t even hit the starting line yet, but has already raised an incredible R65,285! If you are in Durban and attending the Comrades, his race number is 50532, so you can cheer him on along the way.

We’re inspired by your heart and determination and wish you the best of luck, Siya!
