Imagine a day packed with everything from heartfelt chats that tugged at heartstrings to electrifying live performances and even a fun quiz game, the RX Radio 2025 Open Day delivered all this and more as part of its Youth Month celebrations.
Cape Town, South Africa (19 June 2025) – It’s Youth Month, and what better way to mark the occasion than to empower young people and have them share the stories and experiences that impact them most. The RX Radio team recently honoured the commemorative holiday with a powerful celebration of young voices during its 2025 Open Day.
The station opened its doors to the public to experience the magic behind South Africa’s award-winning radio station, run by and for children. From heartfelt chats to live music performances and quiz games, the initiative was a day to remember at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital.
Attendees got to hang out with the incredibly talented young reporters, meet special guests, see how the magic happens, and understand how RX Radio is giving a powerful voice to young people, especially those facing chronic health conditions.
More than just a regular radio station, RX Radio provides a platform where children come together and speak freely about issues that are important to them, thereby empowering them with voice and agency so they can exercise influence within the community and address the issues they face.
Some of the Open Day’s highlights included special guest appearances, insightful conversations, inspiring testimonies, the Open Day quiz and the debut of six-year-old Samachwama, the newest voice on the team! Plus, the Hout Bay Music Trust brought the studio alive with their electric performance.
The station continues to impact the lives of young people, with over 100 children currently actively engaged in ongoing advanced training and skills development through RX Radio, and 160 have already completed training.
RX Radio extended its gratitude to all incredible guests, talented young reporters, amazing audiences, and generous sponsors who made the event a glowing success.
Here’s to amplifying children’s voices louder than ever!
