South Africa’s oldest wine estate, Blaauwklippen, has been named Best Heritage Wine Estate at the 2025 Global Brand Awards in Dubai. Marking a proud moment for local legacy and world-class winemaking.
South Africa (24 June 2025) – South Africa’s oldest wine estate, and the country’s oldest registered company, has just earned global bragging rights. Blaauwklippen has been named Best Heritage Wine Estate at the prestigious 2025 Global Brand Awards, held at the Grand Hyatt in Dubai. Representing Mzansi on a stage shared with global giants from France, Japan, the US, and the UK, Blaauwklippen flew the South African flag high.
With over 18,000 companies considered annually, only a few hundred make the final cut. The heritage category celebrates estates that balance timeless craftsmanship, authentic roots, and visitor experiences that tell a deeper story, and Blaauwklippen ticked every box.
“Dating back to 1682, Blaauwklippen has been a defining player in the Cape Winelands,” says CEO and co-owner Roelof van den Berg. “To be honoured globally, not just for our wines but for what we represent, is an extraordinary milestone.”
The win is made even more special by the fact that Blaauwklippen is now fully back in South African hands, owned by Roelof van den Berg and Olebogeng Manhe. In a premium wine market where many top estates are internationally owned, this local triumph feels deeply personal.
“Blaauwklippen belongs to the hearts of South Africans. We are more than a wine estate – we’re a living part of our nation’s story,” says van den Berg.
The award follows the estate’s recent move to regain full control of its production and distribution, aligning once again with its historical values and commitment to legacy.
After 343 years, Blaauwklippen continues to shape South Africa’s wine identity, blending heritage and innovation, and now, the world knows it too.
