Two standout student-athletes from IIE Varsity College Nelson Mandela Bay are set to represent South Africa at the 2025 FISU World University Games in Germany.
Nelson Mandela Bay, South Africa (11 July 2025) – From 16 to 27 July, the 2025 FISU World University Games in Germany will take centre stage with two student athletes from IIE Varsity College Nelson Mandela Bay campus set to represent South Africa.
Nikithemba Hani and Mondray Barnard are proudly donning the Green and Gold as they prepare to fly the South African flag high, competing in the upcoming FISU World University Games.
Hani, a fourth-year student in the IIE Bachelor of Education in Intermediate Phase Teaching, will compete in the Men’s Long Jump. In contrast, Barnard, a first-year IIE Bachelor of Commerce student, will line up for the Men’s 110m Hurdles.
“Wearing the Green and Gold comes with a deep sense of pride and responsibility, not just for me, but for everyone who’s supporting my journey,” said Mondray. It is also a chance to be an ambassador for my country and for the IIE Varsity College. I am embracing every moment.”
Mondray has quickly established himself as one of the continent’s most exciting hurdles talents. After a headline-grabbing win at the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver in Poland last month, his personal best of 13.44 seconds sees him currently ranked 27th globally and the second-fastest hurdler in Africa.
Nikithemba, meanwhile, has also enjoyed a standout season, and his leap of 8.01 metres at the Athletics South Africa Grand Prix 2 earlier this year confirmed his place among the country’s best. Now, he’s focused on building on that performance on the global stage.
“Representing South Africa and the IIE Varsity College globally is a huge honour and a significant responsibility. My goal is to perform at my best. These experiences are equally about growth.”

This will be an opportunity to learn from top athletes and further apply those lessons both on and off the track, with the hope of returning more motivated and using this experience to inspire others.
Paul Manson, Campus Head at IIE Varsity College Nelson Mandela Bay, praised the pair, “We are always proud of our students when they get chosen to represent our country. It shows huge dedication to be chosen at the highest level. Mondray and Nikithemba have surpassed our expectations as they have consistently produced excellent results.”
Their journey is not just about medals and records, but about flying the flag and chasing dreams.
