SPCA Heroes Rescue Dog Trapped Under Gautrain Bridge

Against all odds, one lucky doggo was pulled to safety from beneath a bustling Gautrain Bridge, emerging completely unharmed thanks to the quick-thinking heroes at Sandton SPCA.

Marlboro, South Africa (14 July 2025) – One little furbaby, which recently found itself trapped beneath the Marlboro Gautrain railway bridge, is now safer and warmer thanks to the quick thinking of the Sandton SPCA team.

The dog had been spotted by a concerned member of the public under the bridge which crossed a flooded river below.

The SPCA’s Field Officer John and Inspector Godfrey, with the assistance of the Gautrain team, had to devise a strategic plan to rescue the stricken animal as he was situated in a location that posed a challenge to access her directly.

“To lure the dog into the cage, they used food, ropes and a cage,” Sandton SPCA said.

It wasn’t long before the dog was safely secured in the cage and the team was able to close and lift it to safety, as seen in a shared video.

She was then taken to the Sandton SPCA for examination, where she was found to be healthy and uninjured. She was later named Hope and currently has a pending adoption.

The successful rescue was one of the few recent cases that the team was able to attend to despite inspectors being stranded following a breakdown of the organisation’s vehicles.

“Every day, animals in distress rely on us to be there, but without wheels, we simply can’t get to them. We’re doing everything we can, but our resources are stretched thin, and honestly, we’re falling apart.”
