Beanies for Beings celebrates the spirit of giving by helping South Africans keep warm this winter.
South Africa (19 July 2025) – This winter, Beanies for Beings is wrapping South Africa in warmth, not just with wool, but with heart. We are deep in the winter season, and it is important to remember that winter in South Africa can be tough for those living without the basic comforts many of us take for granted. While most people are layering up and snuggling into warm homes, countless underprivileged children face the cold without even the simplest protection, like a beanie or a blanket.
Founded as a natural response to the growing need for warmth and care in our communities, Beanies for Beings has made it its mission to knit and crochet for those in need. They are not only collecting much-needed donations, but they are also creating them, stitch by stitch, with love and purpose.
Recently, the organisation had the joy of providing countless children with 10 bags full of handmade beanies, scarves, blankets, and toys. This was all thanks to the generous work of their community of volunteer knitters and crocheters. Each item carries a little bit of someone’s heart, and in giving them away, Beanies for Beings is doing more than keeping people warm. They are reminding them that they matter.

As Mandela Day approaches, the spirit of giving and compassion is especially in the air. While the team is not putting the spotlight solely on this occasion, their ongoing winter drive serves as a perfect reminder that every day is an opportunity to serve. Whether it’s a single beanie or a full bag of woollen joy, every donation is part of a bigger picture.
These were not just beanies and blankets. These were hugs in wool form. A gentle reminder to every child receiving them that someone out there cares deeply. These small items will go a long way, not only in keeping little bodies warm but also in lifting spirits and bringing joy.
