A Brother's Tribute

From a first laptop to a year of rent, Mohau Monnane is grateful for the gift of brotherhood given to him by the one man who showed up for him time and time again – even while still finding his own way.

Johannesburg, South Africa (26 April 2026) – One of the greatest and most invaluable gifts many of us receive from our parents is our siblings. Our first friends with whom we share a home, laughter, childhood, triumphs, rivalries and an unbreakable bond that goes beyond measure.

In a recent Facebook post, Mohau Moh Monnane took a moment to share with the world just how grateful he is for his brother, Gift Mpho Monnane – a man who has stood beside him through every high and low, even while going through his own trials.

“This man went for almost a decade without employment. He used to work piece jobs; he was a producer at some point, charging R50 for a beat and yet managed to help where he could,” Mohau shares.

Mohau went on to open up about how Gift bought him his first laptop when he went to University and paid for his rent for the entire year when he moved to Johannesburg. Despite his older brother still finding his feet himself and trying to pay towards a car, he would still find a way to support Mohau whenever he reached out for help.

“He’s the most selfless human being I have ever met. I think twice when I have to ask him for any favour because I know he’s going to drop everything he’s doing just to attend to my plea, even if it means inconveniencing his plans and pocket. I just wanna publicly appreciate him, though I know he doesn’t like a spotlight,” Mohau says.

And even though Mohau has grown up and gained his independence, and Gift is also doing well for himself as a respected police officer, to this day, he wears the title of big brother with pride – regularly checking up on Mohau to make sure he’s good and safe. He is the gift Mohau considers the absolute greatest from their mother.

With over 57K reactions on Facebook, Mohau’s tribute has warmed thousands of hearts. Gift himself responded with gratitude, sharing how much it meant that Mohau appreciated his support while they both navigated an upbringing filled with private battles.

Now this is the wholesome brotherly love to have graced our timelines that we didn’t know we needed!
