South Africa’s top agility dogs and handlers are heading to Sweden for the 2025 Agility World Championships. Meet the team representing SA on the global stage.
Kalmar, Sweden (01 August 2025) – Tails are wagging in anticipation for next month, when South Africa’s top agility dogs and their dedicated handlers will be flying the SA flag high at one of the biggest canine sporting events in the world…
The Agility World Championships (AWC) is set to take place in September in Kalmar, Sweden. The event, which will be hosted inside the Hatstore Arena, will be a high-speed show of skill, trust and teamwork between handlers and their very talented four-legged athletes.
Our national team will be going paw-to-paw against canine athletes from across the globe. And while the competition is fierce, so is the passion and ‘pawsitivity’ behind Team SA – rooted in love for the sport (which showcases the natural abilities of agile doggies) and an unbreakable bond with their human best friends.
Team SA will compete, over the course of the four-day event, in state-of-the-art agility obstacles – including seesaws, dogwalks and tunnels – all set up to challenge them in creative and fast-paced ways.
Representing Mzansi are some of the country’s top duos, each having earned their place through practice, bond-building, and dedication. It’s all about precision, trust, and the ability to read each other’s movements in a heartbeat.
The teams are split into three categories: large, medium and small.
Large Team representatives:
- Melanie de Klerk & Sinna
- Leandre van der Merwe & Sayra
- Noelene Pretorius & Bree
- Rob Hall & Europa
Medium category:
- Gail Killian & Kassidy
Small category:
- Gail Killian & Emily
Four internationally respected judges, including Joakim Tangfelt and Fanny Gott of Sweden, will oversee the competition alongside Stefanie Semkat of Germany and Vittorio Papavero of Italy, bringing decades of experience to the floor.
Sharing the news about Team SA gearing up for Sweden, the Kennel Union of Southern Africa writes:
“Congratulations to the handlers and dogs selected to attend the Agility World Championships in Sweden, 17-21 September 2025. We wish them all the very best of luck.”
If you’d like to join in on the fun from the comfort of your couch, the event will be broadcast live via this link.
