Much like they did for precious Labrador, Rocky, the South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind’s “Litter Legends Programme” transforms small, hopeful lives into extraordinary heroes who provide independence and companionship to those in need.

Johannesburg, South Africa (07 August 2025) – Every hero starts out small. Sometimes that hero can look like a determined puppy destined to become a source of safety and guidance for its owner.

Picture a clever yellow Labrador puppy named Rocky, who wore his guide dog puppy jacket with pride.

As a small pup, Rocky watched as big dogs trained and dreamt of one day growing up to be someone’s special hero. With the help of dedicated volunteers and trainers, Rocky started his journey with the basics, learning how to sit and stay. These skills formed the foundation of becoming a confident and capable guide dog.

Rocky advanced master platforms, obstacles and targeting objects because one day he would become responsible for safely guiding his owner. After lots of hard work and a special helping hand, Rocky graduated, finally becoming the hero he had dreamed of. He met his forever person, and together they conquered the world!

This International Assistance Dog Week, the South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind is celebrating stories like Rocky’s, and the generous donors who make them possible.

“At the South African Guide-Dogs Association, we believe every four-legged hero deserves a legendary start,” the Association shared.

The Litter Legends Programme helps raise exceptional puppies with the right temperament and genetics to become life-changing Assistance Dogs.

But the association cannot achieve this invaluable work without support.

How You Can Help:

You can join the South African Guide-Dogs Association’s Litter Legends Programme (LLP) as a sponsor and be part of their journey from the very beginning.

“Your support helps provide the care, training, and enrichment needed to transform these pups into confident heroes who bring independence, mobility, and unconditional love to people living with disabilities.”
