Charity Delivers Hope and Sustainable Water Solutions to 38 Tree-Prenuers

A resilient community that struggles with the daily challenge of water accessibility has been empowered with sustainable water solutions to continue its efforts to grow indigenous trees in order to put food on the table.

Tembe, South Africa (19 August 2025) – In the community of Tembe, a remarkable initiative is changing lives through the simple act of growing trees. The WILDTRUST has empowered local residents, known as “Tree-preneurs,” to grow and nurture indigenous trees and exchange them for essential livelihood support.

Initiated in 2016, the programme has created sustainable livelihoods for the Tembe community and recently reached a new milestone.

Last week, WILDTRUST delivered hope and sustainable water solutions to 38 of its Tree-prenuers in the area by handing over hippo rollers (durable, rollable containers for water) to each of these dedicated stewards of the environment.

The handover was made possible through the organisation’s long-standing partners Different.org, a crowdfunding platform which helps NGO’s across South Africa raise funds for their projects.

Through the Water for Trees project campaign, the WILDLANDS programme of the WILDTRUST managed to raise over R180,000, which enabled the purchase of these hippo rollers through the Unity for Water Foundation.

“The smiles of joy were written in bold across their faces as this community struggles with accessibility to water and depends on boreholes as a source of this precious resource.

“The WILDTRUST project leads had the opportunity to exchange ideas with the community, as well as to reassure them that serving the communities in which we work remains a priority, and we commit to making the lives of our people better. Together, we are building a brighter future for our communities,” WILDTRUST said.

For a community that struggles with water accessibility daily, these hippo rollers are a life-changing gift and will ensure this programme, which pours into the environment and those who nurture it, continues to thrive.
