Having experienced the need for healthcare support when his father was diagnosed with cancer, Claus Kempen is singing the praises of the Profmed team and guiding South African professionals towards healthcare support that matters.

South Africa (29 August 2025) – Claus Kempen is an inspiring athlete, most notably known as the sighted guide for Paralympian Louzanne Coetzee, guiding her in both the Tokyo and Paris Olympics. That meaningful partnership has led the way to another, with Profmed.

Poised as a trustworthy communicator, skills finely tuned as Coetzee’s sighted guide, Claus has found these qualities beneficial in communicating his experiences as part of the Profmed family. When the inspiring duo were first brought into the Profmed family, as part of the Path2Paris, they felt heard and supported for what the future had to bring.

“It wasn’t a sales pitch. It was genuine interest in who we were, what we’d been through, and what we might face in the future,” he says. “That was the moment my thinking shifted. My medical aid stopped being just a product and became an investment in my future, backed by people who cared.”

It’s not just about medical cover and claims support, it’s about trust, accessibility, and the confidence that people will be there when it matters most.

For Claus, knowing who is leading the charge in his healthcare journey has been one of the most meaningful parts of being a member at Profmed.

“Craig, the Principal Officer and Chief Executive, and Hendrik, the GM, are not just names on an organisational chart. They are visible, approachable, and willing to have the conversations that matter, even the controversial ones,” he explains.

For the first time in his adult life, Claus could identify the leaders of his medical aid, not because of their titles, but because of their presence.

“They’ve built trust by showing up, and in an increasingly impersonal world, that’s priceless,” he says.

When his father was diagnosed with bladder cancer 5 years ago, the family knew the journey would be tough. Thankfully, he underwent surgery and healed. When the cancer returned in 2024, they again found solutions to support his journey.

“Those years with my father between diagnoses have been precious beyond measure,” Claus reflects. “Without proper healthcare, we may not have had them. Life is unpredictable, but one thing I can control is who stands beside me when challenges come. For me, that’s Profmed, every time.”

Having felt the support he and his family needed to navigate that journey, it solidified his partnership with Profmed and today, he sings their praises, guiding South African professionals to make the move.

Claus describes Profmed as both personal and progressive, small enough to care, agile enough to innovate, yet strong enough to challenge the industry.

“They’ve brought healthcare home,” he says. “I’m proud to be on board, not just as a member, but as someone who feels seen, heard, and valued.”
