After lighting up cities across South Africa, the SPAR Women’s Challenge heads to Gqeberha, blending fitness, live music, and community spirit in a festival-like celebration.

Gqeberha, South Africa (25 September 2025) – The SPAR Women’s Challenge is not slowing down anytime soon. Having already featured in various cities across South Africa, the race now heads to Gqeberha, and this year, it promises to be more than just a race.

With the iconic 10km and 5km runs along the beachfront as the centrepiece, the event is set to blend fitness, fun, and community spirit. From live music and entertainment to a brand-new 500m race for people with disabilities, Pollok Beach will come alive with energy, inclusivity, and celebration.

SPAR Eastern Cape advertising manager Roseann Shadrach said the team wanted participants and families to walk away with memories that stretch far beyond the finish line.

“We wanted to encourage people to get some sunshine and enjoy themselves outdoors.

We have lined up an amazing entertainment programme because we want participants and their families to have an unforgettable experience.”

And unforgettable it will be! Afro-Soul star Andy Ndlazilwana will be singing the national anthem. DJs Dani B and Onika Booi keeping the vibe high. Gino Fabbri shaking things up with drums, and Zain SA closing the show with a headline performance. Don’t forget the food trucks, face painting, and stilt-walkers into the mix, and you have got a full festival atmosphere.

Beyond the fun, the heart of the Women’s Challenge lies in its purpose. Ubuntu Pathways and LifeLine SA have been named as beneficiaries, extending SPAR EC’s ongoing commitment to tackling gender-based violence and supporting women in the community.

“Our intention is to empower women. If one of our younger unlicensed participants wins, we will also provide her a full driver’s licence package that includes lessons. We are also willing to pay for their first attempt at getting their driver’s.”

This year’s Women’s Challenge is about running together, celebrating together, and showing once again that the women of South Africa never slow down.
