That opening beat can turn any gathering into a vibe, even when that vibe is hardcore!

Pretoria, South Africa (29 September 2025) – Sister Bethina, released by Mgarimbe in 2006, is nothing short of a national staple. The myth is actually that every South African is born knowing the song…

Jokes aside, it’s an unstoppable force that brings people together and crosses language, race, region and now even genre.

Just in time for Heritage Month, a Pretoria band, No Closure, put their metal spin on the South African classic and sent it! With Estiaan Smith on vocals, KT Molepo on bass, Kyle Robertson on guitar and Juan van Niekerk on drums, they nailed the ‘hard’ version of Sister Bethina.

We can’t get enough of it, flying kicks and everything. Even in a genre that might be considered an ‘acquired taste’ amongst a broader audience, we can all agree that the proudly South African spirit is shining through.

No Closure debuted in May earlier this year with their EP, Stitching the Sounds of Hollow Goodbyes. According to Texx and the City, they’re familiar faces in the local scene. Friends from school, the group decided to form the band together.
