Ubuntu is alive and well, and the Dheorajh family can attest to that. While enjoying a quiet dinner at a local Spur, they never could have imagined that raising their sons to be well-mannered boys would move a stranger to show them the utmost appreciation.
Midrand, South Africa (22 September 2025) – Every now and then, life will bring moments that leave us in complete awe of the goodness and kindness that still exist in the people we share this complex world with. People who truly embody the spirit of Ubuntu, not for recognition, but out of pure humankindness and ultimately reminding us that umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu (I am because we are).
The Dheorajh family from Midrand had no idea they would be on the receiving end of one of these heartwarming moments when they decided to go out to a local Spur for dinner recently.
Dressed casually to step out with their two sons for a simple supper, Viloshnee and Arvesh arrived at the restaurant and ordered their meals before Viloshnee took the boys to the play area, unknowingly setting the tone for a truly touching evening.
“When our meals came, our kids had a snack and went right back to the play area while my husband and I enjoyed our meal,” she shared in a post.
And then a little while later, a lady walked over to their table, introduced herself as Dineo and thanked Viloshnee and Arvesh for raising such good children, repeatedly praising their son Aryan for being so kind, gentle and caring to her little daughter.
“She also applauded how he took care of his little brother.
“She kept thanking us. I just had to give her a big hug and thank her for her compliments.”
Still relishing the special encounter, Viloshnee and Arvesh were shocked to learn that their bill, which was over R1,000, had already been taken care of when they asked for it from their waiter.
“I was like whaaaat?? Noooo,” Viloshnee reacted.
Dineo, the mother who had been so appreciative of the kindness that Viloshnee and Arvesh’s sons had extended to her daughter, settled the bill as a way of extending her gratitude to their family.
“I immediately walked over and said she didn’t have to, and I can pay the bill, she said it’s a thank you for raising such gentle little men,” Viloshnee recalled.
Dineo’s daughter had been sitting in a corner alone when the kind boys kept going over to her, encouraging her to play and participate in the kiddie activities.
“I’m so grateful, and it’s not because the bill was paid,” Viloshnee explained.
“It’s because a total stranger complimented us on our parenting, and God’s favour and mercy played a huge role in this as well! I feel extremely blessed!! This is my testimony: Dineo and Busi. What friendly and lovely people.”
A lonely girl experienced friendship, much to her mother’s delight, and it was thanks to two special boys who showed her kindness because they had been raised by parents who well understood the importance of showing it to others.
Now that’s a wholesome moment of humanity and interconnectedness.
