A 19-year-old from the Garden Route is chasing his dream to cycle from Cape Town to Cairo, sharing every training ride and challenge of his journey on Instagram for everyone to follow along

South Africa (02 October 2025) – Imagine setting out on a journey that stretches across an entire continent. For 19-year-old Hector, that is exactly what he’s planning. With two wheels under him, he is preparing to cycle from Cape Town to Cairo and ultimately all the way to the Czech Republic.

Starting early in 2026, Hector will ride roughly 100km a day, navigating roads all while documenting every stage of the journey. This is a chance to experience the landscapes and different African cultures.

To bring the adventure to life for others, Hector is taking his followers along for the ride. Documenting the months of training, preparation, and planning that go into such a monumental challenge. His Instagram page will feature daily clips of training rides, gear reviews, and behind the scenes insights into the highs and lows of life on two wheels.

“Follow me along and see my journey.”

The response from the online community has been heartwarming. Comments from people who have undertaken similar rides are offering advice, tips, and encouragement. Many are reaching out, inviting him to connect if he needs guidance or support along the way. Knowing that a network of other cyclists is cheering him on and willing to help makes the adventure feel a little less daunting and a lot more exciting.

He is showing us in real time that adventure starts where comfort ends. Each pedal will push him physically and mentally, while getting a front row view of Africa’s vast beauty.

The countdown begins. The departure date approaches. Hector is ready to turn this ambitious dream into reality. One kilometre at a time.
