A dad digs out his 32-year-old son’s old grade 8 report card, reading through the comments and reflecting on past school struggles with humour

South Africa (02 October 2025)- Who knew a dusty old grade 8 report card could be so entertaining? That’s exactly what happened when a dad decided to revisit his 32-year-old son Chad’s school report. Chad’s results were not exactly stellar, but the dad’s reaction made the whole thing hilarious.

The teacher’s comments were brutally honest: he did not comprehend the questions well and his answers lacked clarity. Let’s just say it’s the kind of report card that makes you think twice before handing it to your parent. Some clever students back then were already mastering the art of hiding it under the bed or stuffing it in a book, hoping no one would notice.

Looking at the report, his dad sighed.

“I wasn’t too happy with it, but at least you got a good balance.”

When Chad asked, “In what?” his dad’s response was perfect: “In life.”

Take this as a reminder that some lessons in life are far more important than marks on a page. After that, he tossed the paper to the side and asked:

“Where are we going for supper?”

Proving that life moves on, even after a bad grade.

Going through old report cards usually brings feelings of nostalgia and Chad’s grade 8 report was no exception.
