From “arrived early for my shift” selfies to dance breaks during card machine troubles, these attendants are showing us that work can be serious business with a whole lot of humour.
South Africa (04 October 2025) – Petrol attendants have always been part of everyday life in South Africa, but a few are now taking things up a notch by bringing relatable garage experience humour online.
In one video, captioned “When your boss starts following you on social media”, a petrol attendant shows off his “perfect employee” side. First, he posts a cheerful selfie with the caption, “I love my job.” Then he follows up with “Arrived early for my shift”. The kind of thing every boss loves to see. And, just in case that did not seal the deal, he posts another clip of himself sweeping during his lunch break. Now, we all know nobody’s cleaning instead of enjoying their lunch. But if the boss is watching, you’ve got to put on a show.
But it doesn’t stop there. In another clip, captioned “When the card machine crashes and you have to entertain the customer”, a different attendant proves that good service sometimes means more than just filling a tank. With the payment system down, he breaks into dance, turning an annoying moment into pure entertainment for the waiting customer. Who knew that refuelling your car could come with a free performance?
Whether it’s exaggerating the “perfect employee” persona or busting out moves to keep the customers entertained when card machines are down, these attendants remind us that laughter really does make the workday.
