“My new life has just begun.” Affectionately known as ‘Gammie on the Go,’ Sean Clarke has proven that losing a limb is simply an invitation to embrace life’s fullest potential with the most endearing smile!
South Africa (14 November 2025) – Who said you can’t have fun without a leg?! Certainly not Sean Clarke. This infectiously optimistic spirit, affectionately known to many as Gammie on the Go, continues to shine bright and inspire us in the most profound ways by simply living life to the fullest – even through the most altering ordeals.
Sean recently underwent a below-knee amputation – a delayed yet inevitable procedure after he had severed the nerve at the back of his knee at the age of seven. The damage left him paralysed from the knee down, but Sean continued to do the things he loved and support the causes he believed in.
Since the amputation, he’s been adjusting to navigating life in a new way with a kind of positivity that leaves one in absolute awe.
This week, he dove into the pool for the first time without “Gammie” – an odd yet enjoyable experience he captured in one of his heartwarming videos.
“Quite possibly the strangest sensation I’ve had since my amputation,” he laughed.
“As you can see, I can’t actually describe it, and I don’t think I’m ever going to be able to.”
His positive outlook has touched and inspired not only us but all of his friends, family and followers.

Sean doesn’t consider his amputation to be significantly life-altering or something to be sad about. If anything, it’s simply a new chapter he’s chosen to fully embrace.
In his own words:
“I always knew I was going to get my leg chopped off at some stage. My family knew it, my mates knew it. The pain and discomfort were getting worse year after year, and so in 2022, I actually made a decision to live the last couple of years with my foot by doing things no one thought were possible. So I ran the Comrades Marathon, I cycled from Johannesburg to Cape Town, I hiked the Otter Trail, and I did a full IRONMAN. And yes, those things probably sped up the process of deterioration, but I did what I loved, with the foot that I loved, while I still had it.”
And in September, he said goodbye to Gammie with a full heart.
“People often ask why I’ve been smiling from the start. Yes, I’m a naturally excited person, but honestly, I’m relieved I’m excited about what’s to come. This isn’t a massive adjustment for me. It’s actually a massive relief.”
For the first time in 23 years, Sean is experiencing less pain than ever before. Although he still faces challenges, he prefers the ones he experiences now over those he dealt with in the past.
And if anyone following his journey was still wondering whether this would slow Sean down – not a chance!
“My new life has just begun and I’m absolutely here for it!”
